DANISH PRESS THREATENS TO SUE OPENAI FOR COPYRIGHT.
AI has created a new front in copyright law following a series of lawsuits alleging that Microsoft-backed OpenAI scraped news publishers’ websites (that is, scraped material from them) without permission to train their models. Shortly after the legal actions, OpenAI signed a series of licensing agreements with major publications , which will allow it to train its future iterations of ChatGPT with their content. The financial conditions of the agreements have not been revealed.
Now, the Danish media is trying to force OpenAI to negotiate with them as a collective, an unusual tactic that, if successful, would serve as a model for other small countries. To date, OpenAI has struck deals with publishers individually and announced content partnerships with the Financial Times and The Atlantic , as well as German media conglomerate Axel Springer , French newspaper Le Monde , and Spanish group Prisa.
